Beaver County Commissioner Jack Manning has taken to Twitter to denounce President Donald Trump’s inciting of a failed insurrection in our nation’s capitol today.
Republican Commissioner Manning, who is entering his second year in office as Beaver County commissioner, published his thoughts shortly before Congress reconvened to certify Democrat Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the 46th President of the United States of America.
Members of Congress had been forced to abandon their respective chambers of the Capitol building after Trump’s supporters attacked the complex, destroyed public property, assaulted police officers, ransacked offices, took control of the legislative floors, and engaged in seditious behavior that led to one woman’s bloody death.
“I’m beyond saddened and appalled at this desecration of the People’s House by a riotous mob at the urging of a clearly delusional and duplicitous President,” wrote Manning to his Twitter followers. “Our democracy demands accountability.”
Trump is currently under a 12 hour ban from posting to the social media site Twitter, after using the platform to disseminate false accusations that there were widespread criminal conspiracies to thwart his reelection. In fact, Biden won the election lawfully, and over 60 lawsuits brought by Trump and his supporters were dismissed by the judiciary after failing to present any significant evidence of electoral wrongdoing.
Republican U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell similarly decried what he dubbed the “failed insurrection” by Trump supporters today, and has recognized Joseph Biden as the duly elected President of the United States.
While U.S. Vice President Mike Pence decried today’s violence, Trump failed to condemn the actions of individuals that he described as “very special” people in a video released after the capitol building was invaded.
