Beaver County has awarded $1.84 million to 110 companies that applied for relief under the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security).
The county received a total of 220 applications from non-profit, for-profit, and local governmental entities seeking a share of $14.8 million in pass-through funding made available from legislation passed this summer by Congress. The grants must be used for COVID-19 related expenses and have to be spent no later than December 20.
Commissioners decided to prioritize a first round of grants, not to exceed $25,000 each, to nonprofits and companies that had not yet received other COVID-related funding such as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) or Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). Funding levels were determined by the COVID-19 related costs and losses that companies claimed in applications submitted to the county. Organizations were required to submit supporting documentation, including their most recent tax returns along with profit and loss statements comparing 2019 to 2020.
