The former tax collector for Center Township is facing 18 felony charges after state police allege she stole more than $600,000 in tax money during her time in office.
Jeanne Ann Bowser, age 61, of Center Township, is charged with 9 felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and 9 felony counts of receiving stolen property.
According to a charging affidavit filed with the court by State Police Tpr. Ryan Boughter, Bowser allegedly admitted to depositing an estimated $500,000 of tax monies from Center Twp. and the Central Valley School District into her own account after drafting checks for herself.
An audit of the accounts showed Bowser wrote 673 checks totaling $622,686.83 over the course of 9 years, with the first dated Dec. 21, 2011, and the last dated Aug. 7, 2019, according to police.
