Ambridge School District Now Suspends All Sports And Extracurricular Activities

Editor’s Note: Just hours after the Ambridge Area School District announced it was suspending cheerleading, the district sent out the following statement informing parents that all athletics and extracurricular activities are being suspended until further notice due to COVID-19 concerns.

Dear Ambridge Area School District Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Ambridge Area School District will continue to work with our families as we receive guidance on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has been working with the Ambridge Area School District as we prepare for the safest way to implement our athletic and extra-curricular programs.

In order to serve the best interests of our students and families, the Ambridge Area School District will be postponing athletic and extra-curricular activities until the Board of School Directors has an opportunity to thoroughly examine the issue of COVID-19 exposure/spread through athletic and extra-curricular programs. The Board of School Directors will convene to discuss this topic at the August 12th, 2020, Meet and Discuss Session.

The health, safety, and welfare of our students, staff, and community members is of the utmost importance to the Ambridge Area School District. We appreciate your patience and support during this time and we will continue to provide updates as we move forward together.

Dr. Joseph Pasquerilla
Superintendent of Schools
