Beaver County commissioners fired the administrator who oversaw Beaver County Behavioral Health’s computer network on Wednesday, according to a county official. Two days later, the county confirmed publicly for the first time that foreign hackers had made off with residents’ Social Security numbers, medical diagnoses, and other protected health information.

John Yuhaniak, who had worked for the county since April 1999, was terminated from his position overseeing BCBH’s network, the official said. According to county payroll records obtained by BeaverCountian.com, his salary last year was $114,086.24. This publication has previously reported that BCBH — unlike most county offices — ran its own independent IT operation rather than relying on the county’s central information technology department, led by Chief Technology Officer Kevin Tusick.
