Beaver County is getting $200,000 in federal money to expand mental health and substance abuse services, U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-17) announced Oct 8.

The grant comes from the Center for Mental Health Services, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). It will fund the county’s REACH program, short for Respond, Educate, Assist, Connect and Help.

Lisa McCoy, administrator of the Beaver County Department of Human Services and Beaver County Behavioral Health, said REACH will deliver evidence-based trainings meant to raise mental health awareness and connect people with treatment. The program targets youth, families, veterans, first responders, people returning to the community after incarceration, older adults and people who work in manufacturing and the skilled trades.

“It’s critical to have the care folks need close to where they live,” Deluzio said.
