At least two City of Aliquippa police officers remain in self-quarantine after exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19, leading other departments to pick up the slack and county officials to conduct contact tracing to ensure the safety of courthouse staff.
District Attorney David Lozier told BeaverCountian.com that he took action this week after being notified that the officers had been quarantined.
“Yes, we have concerns about the police in that department, their families, the community they were in contact with, and my office,” Lozier said. “We consulted with (the county’s Human Resources department) and the (Beaver County) Commissioners, and we did contact tracing. The officer involved was not in the courthouse during the period in question.”
Aliquippa Councilman Matthew Mottes told BeaverCountian.com he is unsure what is happening within the police department because Mayor Dwan Walker and city manager Sam Gill have not answered any of his questions.
“The city’s administrator would not confirm or deny any information for me,” Mottes said. “I can’t give the public a concrete answer about what is going on because I truly don’t know.”
