Courthouse Crime Scene: Assessor Quits In Missing Tax Money Probe

Beaver County’s chief assessor and director of the Tax Claim Bureau has resigned and is under criminal investigation on allegations that he embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money. County officials say criminal charges will be forthcoming.

Joshua Eckelberger resigned early this morning, three days after county officials conducted a spot audit of his office. On Friday, personnel from the county controller’s office opened the Tax Claim Bureau’s safe and found just $4,000 in cash inside.
