A Beaver Area school board member with a long history of controversial social media posts is facing fresh backlash after writing on Facebook that “maybe the Islamic faith is the correct way to go considering they give women zero rights at all,” a post he now insists was sarcasm.
The district’s superintendent and board president responded today with a letter to families. It does not name him or criticize what he wrote.
Luke Berardelli, a member of the Beaver Area School Board, published the post on his personal Facebook page this week. It reads in full:
“Considering this current issue of the Clancy trend, maybe the Islamic faith is the correct way to go considering they give women zero rights at all. Cover your body. Shut your mouth. And you can’t do anything unless a man says so. No education. You’re not allowed to drive. The whole shebang!
