Congressman Jason Altmire (D-PA) issued a strongly worded statement today, following news the Obama administration plans to withhold approval of the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline. The pipeline, to be built by TransCanada Corporation, would transport oil from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
“The rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline permit is a missed opportunity to drastically turn this economy around. This pipeline would have created thousands of new jobs and helped to ensure our energy independence. Make no mistake, this pipeline will be built, but now Canadian jobs will be created and China and its markets will benefit from the oil transported through this pipeline” said Altmire in the written statement. “At a time when American families and businesses are saving to cover rising fuel costs, a pipeline to the Gulf Coast could provide a savings to them. I strongly urge the president to reconsider his objection to this pipeline. The positive impact it can have on our country is too great to pass up.”
The U.S. Government has been reviewing the 1,700-mile Keystone Pipeline since 2008 — Critics have warned the pipeline could lead to environmental devastation if built, and say it would create far fewer jobs than advocates claim.
Today’s decision comes in response to a February 21st deadline mandated by Congress for action on the proposed project.

When has this so-called president done anything in the best interests of this country?
I didn’t know Altmire was the president…. of what? where?
Doesn’t sound like a bad idea tho in 2016.
Just a thought…maybe the President is holding out for a company called something like “TransAmerica Corporation”, and a plan that utilizes american made products. Seems like the lobbyists may have gotten to Jason Altmire. Put some “American” in it somewhere Jason. Don’t just sell out to the highest bidder, sell out to the highest bidding American!
